- Partial hospitalization Programs (PHPs). PHPs are the most intensive form of outpatient care, often requiring patients to visit the facility each weekday for a minimum of 6 hours a day, or a weekly minimum of 20 hours.
- Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOPs). IOPs allow slightly more flexibility in scheduling, requiring weekly attendance between 9 and 20 hours.
- Standard outpatient treatment programs. This is the least intensive form of outpatient care. Patients visit the facility for treatment at intervals determined by the clinical staff.
It is common for patients in outpatient treatment to have completed a residential program or to move through several levels of outpatient care.
