Therapy occurs in multiple formats at Desert Hope and may include:

Individual Therapy

Individual therapy sessions delve into topics that explore your addiction history and other issues, provide you with coping skills to address the addiction, discuss your rehabilitation progress, and help inform aftercare planning and goals.

Group Therapy

In an outpatient program, most therapy takes in place in group settings. In outpatient groups, you’ll have the opportunity to explore various topics and process emotions a safe, peer-supported environment.

There are several different groups offered in Desert Hope’s PHP and IOP settings. Process groups, for instance, address your concerns, struggles, and challenges of living with a substance use disorder and maintaining sobriety.

Psychoeducational groups may cover a range of topics, including:

• Identifying triggers.
• Aftercare planning.
• Managing life and money.
• Common challenges in recovery.
• Relapse prevention.
• Motivation for recovery.
• 12-Step programs in recovery.

Psychoeducation

In therapeutic groups—held in a classroom environment—you learn post-treatment coping skills and strategies to use following the completion of your treatment. These sessions teach you techniques and options for responding to future high-risk situations that could potentially test your sobriety.

Additionally, some of these psychoeducation groups are split up into men’s and women’s groups to help identify topics that may be more specific to one group or the other.

Family Therapy

Family therapy can be an essential part of your recovery, and Desert Hope outpatient programs can offer both virtual and in-person therapy sessions as needed. When spouses, partners, family members, children, and other loved ones understand your addiction and can work through it with you, their encouragement and support can positively impact your recovery.

Medical & Psychiatric Monitoring

In the PHP, individuals see a medical and psychology provider weekly. In an IOP, medical and psychology providers are seen as needed.

Medications for Addiction Treatment

Additionally, in the PHP, medical and mental healthcare providers can assess and prescribe medications for addiction treatment. These medications may include Suboxone, naltrexone, buprenorphine, and more.

12-Step Programs

Attendance in the 12-Step meetings—such as Alcoholics Anonymous or Narcotics Anonymous—has benefited many people and helped them stay sober for years or a lifetime. Participation is encouraged as a complement to Desert Hope’s curriculum while you’re in treatment and after treatment, as well.

Groups for Veterans and First Responders

Desert Hope offers outpatient groups specific to Veterans and first responders. Process groups for these individuals may address topics that include post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), processing trauma, transitioning to civilian life, and more.
